Counselling

What is counselling?

Counselling is a process whereby a client and a counsellor explore issues affecting the client, for example stress, emotional difficulties, bereavement, anxiety, etc. The aim of counselling is to help the client see things more clearly, possibly from a different point of view. The counsellor will help the client to focus on feelings, experiences or behaviour, aiming to facilitate positive change.

Brenda Lee Counsellor/Psychotherapist

A relationship of trust and confidentiality is paramount to successful counselling. Our counsellor at Truly Therapeutic, Brenda Lee, is a highly trained and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist with 14 years’ experience working with children and young people and nearly 30 years counselling adults. Brenda has previously provided support to companies, schools and individuals and is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

How does counselling work?

Counsellors take many different approaches to the problems that clients are facing. They use their experience and knowledge to assess the best way forward in each individual case. At the heart of the counselling though is the process of sharing and talking through problems, and exploring ways to overcome difficulties. Our counsellor works with adults and children in the following areas:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Work related stress
  • Personal life related Stress
  • Bereavement
  • Social anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Trauma therapy
  • Poor confidence
  • Poor self esteem
  • Pain management

Can counselling help me?

“As life’s traumas hit us all at different stages of our journey, the counselling relationship offers something extremely unique when we are feeling overwhelmed. For instance, the offering of a safe confidential environment where issues can be explored with absolute respect is often the most important step towards recovery. I have repeatedly found that when a person feels truly heard, perhaps for the

first time, change within any situation (however negative) will take place.

Even though the focus of my practice is fundamentally person centred, I have acquired many integrative skills over the years including emotional intelligence, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and psychodynamic, and we will decide together how to move forward following initial assessment.”
